DIY: Literal Book Shelves

One day while at Circle Thrift, I was rummaging through the 'Free' bins and came across about 10 books with decent and interesting cloth spines. The books sat on our piano for quite some time, and after a thorough investigation to make sure they weren't valuable (one was worth 20 bucks!), I decided to reuse some brackets I had laying around from another project. The Time of the Season

Spring has sprung, Philadelphia! Over the last few absurdly warm weeks I have  been planting and preparing for an amazing grow season! I have about 3 different lots this year but have only gotten my crops in on my stoop. This year I have container gardens filled with spring lettuces, flowers, and herbs. I picked up my spring lettuce starters from Urban Jungle on Passyunk for a nice $6.99 and some pansies and herbs (rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme) in the Italian Market from a vendor for about $5. The key to container gardening is good hearty organic soil (which you can also pick up at Urban Jungle) and making sure your soil has the right nutrients.

Stay tuned for tutorials on planting your cold crops and how to make a raised bed!

Talula's Brunch

Tomorrow, Stephen Starr and Aimee Olexy open Talula's Garden's doors for its long awaited Sunday Brunch. Nestled in the Ayer Building of Philadelphia, with displays of incredible Art Deco adornments from 1929, Aimee's homey whimsical trinkets embellish Talula's enclosed garden patio. This breathtaking venue simply screams the perfect brunch spot.

Thursday the staff got to see what the menu would entail and taste all the new and delicious dishes. From scrumptious parfaits to classic interpretations of such dishes as Hanger Steak and Sunny Farm Fresh Egg, we tasted it all. The brunch highlights Kennet Square, Pennsylvania's(the mushroom capital of the world) outrageous Mushrooms, Pequea Valley Yogurt, and house made apple carrot juice, just to name a few. Check out my photos of this delectable brunch

BY KATIE BRIGGS You've heard it before, I'll say it again, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Studies have shown that starting your day with a hearty and healthy breakfast correlations with weightloss as well as increased energy levels. I have always been a huge fan of oatmeal, and love seeing the variations people come up with, such as my friends amazing overnight oats recipes. The great thing about oatmeal is that its versatile. This recipe calls for apples and bananas but would be just as good with any other fruits! Here is my quick and easy recipe that can be done on the stovetop or the microwave:
