The 'Vacationland' of Maine harbors some of the most delicious and succulent lobsters in the country. While attending and helping out at Caravan Music Festival, held this past week in Belegrade Lakes, Maine, I had the pleasure of being able to experience the local delicacy, the infamous ''Lobster Roll', I had been craving since last years festival. This year I decided to ask some locals where they go to get there Lobster Rolls and was pointed to Belgrade Lakes Seafood by one of the wisest of men.
This roadside stand has all your American staples such as soft serve ice cream, burgers, dogs and crinkle cut french fries, but the true star of the menu is their Lobster Roll Special which comes with a side of fries. This cut top hotdog roll slathered with butter, iceberg lettuce and unadulterated fresh Maine lobster was the epitome of the Maine Lobster Roll. The roll, modestly presented in a hotdog sleeve, is made fresh to order truly showcases this delightful treat and for 10.95 and is well worth the price.
For those who do not have the freedom to take the 9 hour drive up to Maine can enjoy the treat at home in a few simple steps. Lobster roll can be made in many ways such as with mayonnaise, various vegetables (cucumber, celery and lemon), but for me, if you are able to get your hands on some truly fresh lobsters, you want to keep it as simple as possible.
