Yes Philadelphia, our market is all grown up! Today Reading Terminal Market is celebrating its 120th birthday! They will be offering a speciality brew from Philadelphia Brewing Company ( a chocolate stout called Engine 1892) and with efforts from Levelup, the market is offering a $10 credit between 11am and 4pm to anyone who pays using the LevelUp mobile app.
Considered Philadelphia’s mecca of food, Reading Terminal Market is one of the countries oldest icons of good eats. The enclosed market, located at 12th and Arch, houses over a hundred merchants that carry just about anything your heart desires. Once a high-tech refrigerating unit and home to the industrial boom’s Reading Railroad headhouse terminal, Reading Terminal Market has maintained its original mission to connect city dwellers to the area’s farmers. But it has also evolved with the times. Since the terminal’s merger with the Pennsylvania Convention Center in 1993, the market has become a new animal, bringing in more visitors than had ever seen before (anyone who has ever had the displeasure of being at the Reading Terminal Market around the Flower Show knows how packed the market can get during the conventions). Today the market is still booming with sweet eats and is one of my favorite places to pick up some grocieries. So visit the market today to check out this historic day and maybe even have some foodie fun!
